The Mists Of Andromeda
A downloadable game for Windows
I really enjoyed participating in the ScreamJam, even tho my entry wasn't counted because I submitted it too late, but I think it has potential and I'm going to work on this game some here and there, the level ups add a hundred HP to whatever you already have plus 2 times the level bonus HP. it gets harder as the more levels you go up, the more monsters that are shooting at you and running off. The menu is working fairly well, it's easy to navigate and alerts you of new storyline material in your info section of the menu by displaying a red dot over the button(s) with unseen content.
Now the game is game pad compatible, (but not on the start screen currently, click start with left mouse button.) you must have the gamepad plugged in or otherwise connected to your device before starting the game, or the game will crash. Trying to find a work around to this issue in GMS_II.
the controls are:
d-pad - move around, navigate menu
Bottom button - Action, confirm
Right Button - Cancel, go back in menu
Left button - use equipped (coming soon)
top button - enter / exit the menu
Start button - restart the game if you lose
select (back) button - quit the game
This is a Halloween themed jam game, #screamJam #screamZone , I'm developing for the 2024 Scream Jam. The synopsis is that the Earth, in it's 225 million year orbit around the Milky Way's core, passes through the tail of a giant biological ionized cloud of plasma, creating strange monsters in it's wake. You must help the world find the resources it needs to build a giant shield to protect it from any more creature attacks. Find the pieces to make the huge shield and it's infrastructure. If sucessfull, you'll still have to defeat the remaining monsters, the toughest ones of course. :)
Good luck to everyone participating in the jam, and happy coding and spooky season!
The Synopsis
The Andromeda Galaxy is destined to create a catostrophic collision with our galaxy in a million years, but little do people realize that the process has already begun, the 2 galaxies are already starting to interact, trading matter, energy, and the gasses and dust of creation. Unfortunately for us here on earth, and coincidentally, on Halloween, our solar system is just starting to pass through a Bio Cloud originating from the Andromeda galaxy. In ages past, there was a huge swampland planet 14 times the size of Jupiter that was unlucky enough to orbit a group of black holes, Neutron stars, and a Magnetar at the center of the Andromeda galaxy, so violent was it's chaotic orbit that all of the planet's crust broke apart and was ejected from the Andromeda's core and into the outskirts of\nit's galaxy, on a direct collision course with our solar system. altho the outter shell froze over in it's 100,000 year journey from space, the inside stayed liquid and warm. As the Bio - blob hurled into the inner solar system it began to melt and show a tail like a comet. It was a spectacular sight in the sky, a neon green ball of fire with a murky phosflorescent green tail, in just a few hours the comet's path was to cross the Earth's orbit and bathe the earth in a wonderfull ionic glow as our magnetic field would shield us from any harmfull effects, ... or would it?

Dev notes from during the game challenge period in real time:
Friday 10/18/24: day 2.5, I have the skeleton of a game working, in which you can select start or quit, and selecting start brings you to the first game screen and you can move a character around in the game room. I've spent most of my time making graphics and setting up basic game code. I made 2 shaders, but neither are working currently but will be fixed if I have time left, I'm not wasting time on things that should work but don't, until I have a good playable game going, then if there's still time I will start on that list
Tuesday morning 10/22/24: I have been working a fulltime job so did not get to do much with this jam entry, but at least it somewhat works, no sounds yet and no in game menu, all you can do is walk around:( The shader I made was supposed to show a comet on the opening game screen when you press start, but it just turns the sky black instead, But at least my night shader is working after 5 seconds.
Tuesday night: I went ahead after work and got the enemies working, they shoot at you and damage you, you can shoot at them by pressing 'E'. The comet green mist shader still won't cooperate yet.
Wednesday 10/23/24: last day, I got a lot of coding done, levels, graphics, you can run out of hp and lose the game, but if you level up you get full hp back + more for each level.
10/23/24 4:56pm Jam has 4 minutes left, here is my final entry, good luck everyone and happy coding!
